LEAGUE NEWS

8/24/10
The League Playoffs took place this past week at Hopkins Field in Syracuse. In one of the 10 A.M. Games Syracuse LO's defeated Mario's Pizza to advance into a semifinal game against Cortland, however no score was reported for the game. In the other game KAA won over Meineke by a 15 to 5 score.

In one semifinal game Lane's KK rolled over KAA 17 to 3 led by Olin Henneman's 3-4 with 4 RBI's and a homer and Al Sheridans 4-4, 2 RBI's and Rich Poliquin's Homer.

In the other semifinal, Cortland Quadra Flex scored an 18 to 6 win over the Syracuse LO's. In Cortland’s semifinal victory over Syracuse, winning pitcher Mike Richmond allowed six scattered hits over the first four innings supported by an error-free defense. Cortland’s offense, scoring in every inning, was led by Jerry Stratton (3-for-3) and former Cortland State basketball standout Tony Galeazzi 3-for-4 including a double and two RBIs. Nine other Quadra Flex players had two hits apiece as the winners had 25 hits in all. Mel Rathburn went 3-for-3 for Syracuse

In the championship game, neither team was able to score until the bottom of the third inning when Quadra Flex exploded for five runs on six consecutive hits including a two-run double by Gary Contri. The Karousel Kids bounced back with four runs of its own in the top of the fourth inning giving Quadra Flex a slim 5-4 lead. Cortland extended its lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth on a lead off triple by Galeazzi followed by an RBI single by Vern Wagar. Quadra Flex added one more run stretching its lead to 7-4 after five innings. In the top of the sixth inning, Karousel Kids threatened with back-to-back doubles by Fred Light and Olin Henneman, but Cortland’s defense hung tough allowing only one run.

Once again, it was the Quadra Flex tight team defense and effective pitching by winning pitcher Jack Barker that limited the scoring of the Karousel Kids. Balanced hitting by Cortland was led by Dwight Lashley. Ken Moses, Vern Wagar, Tony Galeazzi, and Gene Signor with two hits apiece.

Fred Light went 3-for-3 with a double while Olin Henneman was 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead the way for the Karousel Kids.

With the end of the season upon us, the fall meeting is not far away. If you plan to introduce any new Bylaw or Rule changes, you to have them distributed to the League Officers and League Reps one week before the League Meeting for their review. You can't introduce them "cold turkey" at the meeting. I know that Carl Vernon will be introducing some changes, maybe if you sent your proposals to him we can get them all into one single package for distribution.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CORTLAND QUADRA FLEX ON WINNING THE PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP!

JUST A REMINDER--- ITS NOT TOO SOON TO BE THINKING ABOUT WHO SHOULD BE YOUR NEW SECRETARY. IF YOU WISH TO VOLUNTEER OR HAVE ANY CANDIDATES, PLEASE CONTACT CARL VERNON.
